If you live in New England, you’re probably familiar with the Sales Tax Holiday. It’s a time when a state waives the normal sales tax on certain items.
Massachusetts Sales Tax Holiday
Historically, the Massachusetts Sales Tax Holiday occurs in August. This year, the dates are:
Saturday, August 17, 2019
Sunday, August 18, 2019
According to the Massachusetts Department of Revenue, the 6.25% sales tax will be waived on items $2,500 and under. This includes items purchased on the internet. However, Motor vehicles, motorboats, meals, telecommunications services, gas, steam, electricity, tobacco products are excluded from this sale.
Special note: Articles of clothing which cost $175 and under are not taxed during the year. So if you miss the tax-free weekend, don’t worry. Clothing under $175 are never taxed in Massachusetts.

Connecticut Sales Tax Holiday
Similarly, the state of Connecticut also offers a sales tax holiday. This occurs for one week during the month of August. This year, the dates are:
Sunday, August 18, 2019 through Saturday August 24, 2019
According to the Connecticut Department of Revenue Services, the 6.35% sales tax will be waived on clothing and shoes costing less than $100.
