{"id":597,"date":"2013-05-08T09:25:08","date_gmt":"2013-05-08T13:25:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/?p=597"},"modified":"2013-05-07T13:24:54","modified_gmt":"2013-05-07T17:24:54","slug":"stamp-out-hunger-may-11-2013","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/?p=597","title":{"rendered":"It&#8217;s Time to Clean Out Your Cabinets and Pantry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As part of your spring cleaning, you should clean out your kitchen cabinets and pantry.\u00a0 I try to do mine this week, so that my donations are ready for the \u201cStamp Out Hunger\u201d food drive on Saturday, May 11, 2013.<\/p>\n<p><b>Tips on Cleaning Out Your Cabinets\/Pantry:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Take one shelf at a time.<\/li>\n<li>Toss any items that have expired.<\/li>\n<li>Donate non-perishable items you may not use or just over-purchased<\/li>\n<li>Incorporate remaining food on your Meal Planner to ensure it is used.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Stamp Out Hunger \u2013 How does it work?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>On the second Saturday in May, the National Association of Letter Carriers holds a national food drive called \u201cStamp Out Hunger.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Interested in donating?\u00a0 Just leave your non-perishable items in a bag at your mailbox on Saturday, May 11, 2013.\u00a0 <b><i>Your letter carrier will pick it up and deliver it to a food bank, soup kitchen or shelter.\u00a0 <\/i><\/b>Isn\u2019t this great?\u00a0 It\u2019s a way to donate to those in need, and have your donations picked up at your mailbox.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Examples of non-perishable items include:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n<li style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Peanut butter<\/li>\n<li style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Canned soup<\/li>\n<li style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Canned meats and fish<\/li>\n<li style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Canned vegetables, fruits and juices<\/li>\n<li style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Boxed goods (such as cereal)<\/li>\n<li style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Pasta and rice<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00a0For more information about the annual <i>Stamp Out Hunger <\/i>food drive, ask your letter carrier, contact your local post office or visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.helpstampouthunger.com\">www.helpstampouthunger.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Need more tips on meal preparation?\u00a0 Check out our articles on:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/?p=54\" target=\"_blank\">Setting Up A Pantry<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/?p=155\" target=\"_blank\"> What\u2019s For Dinner Tonight?
