margin: 0px !important;\" src=\"\/\/ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com\/e\/ir?t=runni054-20&amp;l=am2&amp;o=1&amp;a=B01MZ107FF\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Temporary Receipts (Orange)<\/strong> \u2013 Grocery, gas,dry cleaning, \u00a0banking, haircuts<\/li>\n<li><strong>Clothing (Yellow)<\/strong> \u2013 All clothing and shoe receipts<\/li>\n<li><strong>Household\u00a0Items (Pink)<\/strong> \u2013 Small items for around the house; keep just in case it breaks or you need to exchange it (small appliances, yard items, d\u00e9cor,)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Home Improvements \u2013<\/strong> Save as long as you own the home (Green) Any item that increases the cost basis of your home.\u00a0 According to the IRS, \u201cImprovements include putting a recreation room in your unfinished basement, adding another bathroom or bedroom, putting up a fence, putting in new plumbing or wiring, installing a new roof, and paving your driveway.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">\u00a0Let\u2019s stop for a tax lesson:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">You paid $100,000 for your house.\u00a0 You installed new windows, upgraded the landscaping, and put in a pool.\u00a0 These items totaled $10,000.\u00a0 Several years later, you sell your house for $150,000.\u00a0 What is your gain?\u00a0 It is only $40,000.\u00a0 The other $10,000 is added to the cost of your home.\u00a0 So save those receipts.\u00a0 The tax laws are always changing, so you never know when you may need this information.\u00a0 At this point, your job is to simply save the receipts.\u00a0 You&#8217;ll need a tax professional to assist you when you sell your home.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5.\u00a0 Hobbies (blue)<\/strong> \u2013 If you have a hobby or two, and purchase things on a regular basis, save your receipts.\u00a0 Your hobby may one day need an appraisal, and the receipts will be helpful.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the month, transfer your colored envelopes to a larger storage bin labeled \u201c2013.\u201d\u00a0 At the end of the year, you can toss all of the orange envelopes labeled Temporary Receipts.\u00a0 These were your temporary receipts.\u00a0 Just be sure to dispose of them properly (shred or burn).\u00a0 Save all of the other receipts in your bin.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Middle Drawer: Health Care<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is meant to be a temporary holding place for your monthly medical receipts such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Prescriptions<\/li>\n<li>Doctor\u2019s Visits<\/li>\n<li>Mail Order RXs<\/li>\n<li>Summary Reports from Doctor<\/li>\n<li>Over the Counter Receipts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At the end of the month, or at the end of every quarter, move the receipts to a medical folder in your file cabinet.\u00a0 If you have a Flexible Spending Account or Health Savings Account, be sure to submit the receipts for reimbursement.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Bottom Drawer: Reimbursements and Box Tops for School<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you travel for business, you are bound to come home with receipts in your pockets, purse or wallet.\u00a0 Keep these receipts in the bottom drawer until you\u2019re ready to submit them for reimbursement.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Box-Tops-for-Education-Logo.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-390\" src=\"https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Box-Tops-for-Education-Logo.png\" alt=\"Box Tops for Education Logo\" width=\"45\" height=\"31\" \/><\/a>\u00a0 Do you collect box tops for education?\u00a0 When you finish a box of cereal, rip off the box top for education and drop in the bottom drawer.\u00a0 We use a snack size zip lock bag with 50 box tops per bag.\u00a0 For more information on this school fundraiser: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boxtops4education.com\/\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">http:\/\/www.boxtops4education.com\/<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>We\u2019d love to hear from you.\u00a0Was this article helpful?\u00a0 Do you have any comments, questions or suggestions?\u00a0 Show us a picture of your final product.\u00a0 C<\/strong><\/em><em><strong>lick on the \u201cLeave a Reply\u201d link under the title of the article, and give us your feedback in the comments box which appears at the end of the article.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Do\u00a0you have receipts on your kitchen counter, bedroom dresser, in your purse, wallet or even on your car seat?\u00a0 Here&#8217;s an easy way to organize and store your receipts.
