margin: 0px !important;\" src=\"\/\/ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com\/e\/ir?t=runni054-20&amp;l=am2&amp;o=1&amp;a=B0002IXKS4\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>\nRead the application instructions to determine how much phosphate remover you need.\u00a0 Our pool is 16 x 36, and our phosphate level required us to use 32 ounces.<\/p>\n<h4>Step 2: Balance Your Pool Water<\/h4>\n<p>We made sure that our pool water was balanced first, with the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">exception<\/span> of the chlorine level.\u00a0 So that means our alkalinity, ph, and calcium hardness were at the correct levels.\u00a0 We also added our three-month algaeside to prevent any further issues.<\/p>\n<p>Our pool store representative recommended holding off on shocking the pool until our phosphate levels were reduced to close to 0.\u00a0 Otherwise, it\u2019s like throwing money away.\u00a0 All of the shock you put into your pool will simply disappear.\u00a0 To drive the point home, he told us to just give him $20 if we felt like shocking the pool!<\/p>\n<h4>Step 3:\u00a0Pour the Phosphate Remover around the entire pool.<\/h4>\n<p>The instructions on our phosphate remover product recommended that we pour the phosphate remover around the edge of the entire pool.<\/p>\n<p>Also note that the filter will need to run for 24 hours, so plan accordingly.\u00a0 You will want to be around while the filter runs, so that you can bump it when the pressure rises.<\/p>\n<h4>Step 4: Vacuum up any phosphate remainder<\/h4>\n<p>Phosphate\u00a0remnants look like gray or white matter floating at the bottom of the pool.\u00a0 You will need to vacuum this matter and remove it from your pool.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3769\" style=\"width: 235px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Phosphates-in-pool.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3769\" class=\"wp-image-3769 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Phosphates-in-pool-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Can't keep chlorine in your pool\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Phosphates-in-pool-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Phosphates-in-pool-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Phosphates-in-pool-624x832.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3769\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Gray matter in pool after phosphates removed<\/p><\/div>\n<h4>Step 5:\u00a0Backwash the pool filter<\/h4>\n<p>It\u00a0is important to backwash the pool filter after vacuuming, and install fresh Dichotomous Earth (D.E.)\u00a0 Backwashing\u00a0will remove the phosphates from your pool, and prevent them from reentering the water.\u00a0 We even took the opportunity to crack open our filter to clean\u00a0the fingers.<\/p>\n<h4>Step 6: Re-Test the Phosphate Levels<\/h4>\n<p>Next, have the phosphate levels tested again.\u00a0 If the levels\u00a0are above 500, repeat the steps again.\u00a0 Otherwise, your pool will not hold chlorine.\u00a0 Since removing phosphates requires you to test multiple times, you may want to save a few trips to the pool store and purchase your own <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B00HEAS7JA\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=B00HEAS7JA&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=runni054-20&amp;linkId=7394849692005cc14ee8822f7d44ca63\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Phosphate Test Kit<\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: none !important; This kit also allows you to test up to 100 times.
