{"id":3598,"date":"2015-01-19T09:27:13","date_gmt":"2015-01-19T14:27:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/?p=3598"},"modified":"2015-01-19T09:25:16","modified_gmt":"2015-01-19T14:25:16","slug":"organize-display-science-fair-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/?p=3598","title":{"rendered":"How to Organize and Display Your Science Fair Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Part of running a household involves helping the kids with their homework and school assignments.\u00a0 We recently pulled together a project for a first grade science fair.\u00a0 Here are the details on how we gathered the information and organized the project.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Organize-and-Display-Science-Fair-Project.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-3607\" src=\"https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Organize-and-Display-Science-Fair-Project-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"How to Organize and Display Your Science Fair Project\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Organize-and-Display-Science-Fair-Project-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Organize-and-Display-Science-Fair-Project.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Finding a topic for a science fair<\/h3>\n<p>We really thought it was important to let our child take the lead on the topic.\u00a0 It needed to be something he was interested in, and wanted to learn more about.<\/p>\n<p>Our dog was recently sprayed by a skunk, and ever since then, our son has been fascinated by skunks.\u00a0 We took this opportunity to work with him to learn more about skunks, and document his findings.<\/p>\n<h3>Researching a topic for a science fair<\/h3>\n<p>There were several resources which we found helpful when researching skunks:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Library books<\/strong> &#8211; We read several books from the library.\u00a0 Each one gave us interesting information.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Websites<\/strong>: We played it safe, and stuck with National Geographic for Kids.\u00a0 We also found some helpful information at the San Diego Zoo website.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/kids.nationalgeographic.com\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/kids.nationalgeographic.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/zoo.sandiegozoo.org\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/zoo.sandiegozoo.org<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Videos<\/strong>: We actually found several videos on YouTube which showed rabid skunks.<\/p>\n<h3>Documenting information for science fair<\/h3>\n<p>Did you know there is a specific format to document your research and findings for a science fair?\u00a0 We followed the steps outlined on<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/sciencebuddies.org\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/sciencebuddies.org<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Since our son was only in first grade, we simplified some of the sections.\u00a0 We followed the general format for reporting.\u00a0 We drafted the information by talking with our son, and writing down what he said.\u00a0 Then we put the information into a Powerpoint presentation with pictures.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">To see our presentation slides, click on the link below:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Skunks-My-Research.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-3605\" src=\"https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Skunks-My-Research-300x188.jpg\" alt=\"Skunks Science Fair Project\" width=\"300\" height=\"188\" srcset=\"https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Skunks-My-Research-300x188.jpg 300w, https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Skunks-My-Research-1024x643.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Skunks-My-Research-624x392.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Science-Fair-Skunks.pdf\">Science Fair &#8211; Skunks<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Organizing a display for a science fair<\/h2>\n<p>We opted to use the following materials to explain our research:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Powerpoint Slides<\/li>\n<li>Display Board: We printed the slides, and glued them to the <strong>36&#215;48 Elmer\u2019s Tri-Fold Display Board<\/strong>. We opted for this size because it could display all of our information. It was also manageable to carry in to school on the day of the project.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fiskars Tape Runner<\/strong>: The extra sticky glue stick did not seem to hold our paper to the display board.\u00a0 Since we do a lot of scrapbooking, we opted to use our Fiskars Tape Runner.\u00a0 It is a small orange tool that holds double-sided tape.\u00a0 It worked like a charm, and held the paper in place.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Model clay<\/strong>: We demonstrated the difference between a healthy skunk and a skunk with rabies.
