{"id":3557,"date":"2015-01-10T11:44:05","date_gmt":"2015-01-10T16:44:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/?p=3557"},"modified":"2015-01-10T11:43:10","modified_gmt":"2015-01-10T16:43:10","slug":"organize-childrens-puzzles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/?p=3557","title":{"rendered":"How to Organize Children\u2019s Puzzles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Our children love puzzles.\u00a0 When our puzzle collection started to grow, we knew we needed a good system to keep them organized.<\/p>\n<h3>How to Organize Large Puzzles<\/h3>\n<p>Our collection of puzzles started to grow when our children became toddlers.\u00a0 Most of our puzzles were 12 x 9 wooden ones that needed to be stacked.\u00a0 One of our favorites is the 10 Piece Magnetic Fishing Puzzle by Melissa and Doug.\u00a0 It\u2019s a quality puzzle and even comes with it\u2019s own fishing pole.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Magnetic-fishing-puzzle.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-3560\" src=\"https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Magnetic-fishing-puzzle-215x300.jpg\" alt=\"Magnetic fishing puzzle\" width=\"215\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Magnetic-fishing-puzzle-215x300.jpg 215w, https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Magnetic-fishing-puzzle-734x1024.jpg 734w, https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Magnetic-fishing-puzzle-624x870.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 215px) 100vw, 215px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>To store the larger puzzles, we opted for a wire puzzle rack, similar to the ones you see in a preschool classroom or children\u2019s section of a library.\u00a0 We opted for the Deluxe Wire Puzzle Rack by Melissa and Doug which holds up to 12 puzzles.\u00a0 We liked it because it can hold smaller puzzles as well as larger ones.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/How-to-Organize-Childrens-Puzzles-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-3565\" src=\"https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/How-to-Organize-Childrens-Puzzles-2-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"How to Organize Childrens Puzzles 2\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/How-to-Organize-Childrens-Puzzles-2-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/How-to-Organize-Childrens-Puzzles-2-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/How-to-Organize-Childrens-Puzzles-2-624x832.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Simple and Inexpensive Storage Solution for Organizing Boxed\u00a0Puzzles<\/h3>\n<p>As our children grew older, their puzzle sizes grew smaller.\u00a0 The first ones came in small cardboard boxes with 24 pieces.\u00a0 At first, we kept the puzzles in their original boxes.\u00a0 This worked fine, until the boxes started to fall apart.\u00a0 Here\u2019s what we did to solve the problem.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">First, we cut out the puzzle picture from the box.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Then, we put the picture of the puzzle in a zip-loc bag, and added all of the pieces to the bag.\u00a0The picture is visible on one size of the bag, so we can easily find the puzzle we are looking for.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center; padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Puzzle-storage-in-bag.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-3563\" src=\"https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Puzzle-storage-in-bag-300x269.jpg\" alt=\"Puzzle storage in bag\" width=\"300\" height=\"269\" srcset=\"https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Puzzle-storage-in-bag-300x269.jpg 300w, https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Puzzle-storage-in-bag-1024x918.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Puzzle-storage-in-bag-624x559.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Once all of the puzzles\u00a0were in a zip-loc bag, we designated one large cube in the bookcase to hold all of the puzzles.\u00a0 It\u2019s easy for the children to reach.\u00a0 Cleaning up is super easy for children.\u00a0 Just put all of the pieces in the zip-loc, and drop the bag in the large cube.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Books-9-cube.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2351\" src=\"https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Books-9-cube-232x300.jpg\" alt=\"Bin for puzzle storage\" width=\"232\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Books-9-cube-232x300.jpg 232w, https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Books-9-cube.jpg 302w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 232px) 100vw, 232px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>The True Test of a Good Organizational System<\/h3>\n<p>You know you have a good system in place once it is put to the test.\u00a0 One day, our three-year old went to get a puzzle.\u00a0 When he didn\u2019t come back right away, I went to check on him.\u00a0 In a matter of two minutes, he managed to open 5 zip-loc bags, and dump the puzzle pieces all over the rug!\u00a0 At first, I thought I was going to cry.\u00a0 However, we sat down together, and made piles for each puzzle.\u00a0 In a matter of 15 minutes, we had everything cleaned up. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>Happy organizing!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our children love puzzles.\u00a0 When our puzzle collection started to grow, we knew we needed a good system to keep them organized.
