Are your taxes done yet?\u00a0 They should be.\u00a0 However, let me rephrase the question.\u00a0 Are your taxes filed yet?\u00a0 The\u00a0correct answer would be: no.\u00a0 Here\u2019s why your taxes should not be filed yet:<\/p>\n

Someone once told me that we\u00a0should strive to owe money to the IRS.\u00a0 If you’re getting a refund, then you let Uncle Sam have an interest-free loan last year.\u00a0 So if you planned accordingly, you should owe the IRS money.\u00a0 Ideally, not a lot of money, but just a little.<\/p>\n

When to file your taxes<\/h4>\n

According to the IRS instructions for Form 1040 booklet, taxpayers need to<\/p>\n

“File Form 1040 or 1040-SR by\u00a0April 15, 2021.<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0If you file after this date, you may have to pay interest and penalties.”<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n
Update<\/strong>: The IRS has automatically expended the deadline from to May 17, 2021<\/strong><\/em>.<\/div>\n

So if you owe money, you’ll want to send it in before the deadline.\u00a0 Personally, I like to mail ours on the day it is due.\u00a0 And in years with special holidays or due date extensions, I am certain to take advantage of that extra time.\u00a0 After all, it\u2019s your money.<\/p>\n
