{"id":1988,"date":"2013-12-27T09:25:12","date_gmt":"2013-12-27T14:25:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/?p=1988"},"modified":"2013-12-27T10:02:16","modified_gmt":"2013-12-27T15:02:16","slug":"cleaning-up-after-christmas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/?p=1988","title":{"rendered":"Cleaning up after Christmas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On December 24th, everyone feels great about how pretty and clean the house looks.\u00a0 But what about after Christmas?\u00a0 If you hosted Christmas Day at your house, there&#8217;s a good chance there are toys and presents scattered around the room.\u00a0 Here are a few\u00a0steps and strategies\u00a0to get your house cleaned up in no time.<\/p>\n<h3>Step #1:\u00a0 Separate items to Reuse &#8211; Recycle &#8211; Trash<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Items to Reuse:<\/strong> Gather all of your gifts bags and bows that can be used again.\u00a0 Bring them to your gift wrapping storage area.\u00a0 For ideas on storing gift wrap paper and bows, check out our separate article located at the end.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Items to Recycle<\/strong>: Gather bags, boxes and cardboard you do not plan to keep.\u00a0 Take a large box or two and put everything in it.\u00a0 Just make sure the boxes meets any town recycling requirements.\u00a0 Our boxes need to be less than three feet long.\u00a0 Otherwise we need to cut them up into smaller pieces.\u00a0 Bring these out to the trash.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Items to Trash<\/strong>: Collect any remaining pieces of wrapping paper and small plastic pieces that held toys in their boxes.\u00a0 These can be placed in a trash bag and brought outside.<\/p>\n<h3>Step #2: Sort Gifts Room by Room<\/h3>\n<p>Next, you&#8217;ll want to group gifts according to their final room destination.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Did you receive a few kitchen gadgets?\u00a0 Make a pile for all kitchen items.<\/li>\n<li>If your son received toys and clothes that will go to his room, make a pile for those gifts.<\/li>\n<li>Are you lucky to have a playroom?\u00a0 Excellent.\u00a0 Make a large pile for all toys going to the playroom.<\/li>\n<li>Did you receive a few toys or gadgets to use outside?\u00a0 Group these items together so they can go out to the shed or garage.<\/li>\n<li>Be sure to keep all of your gift cards together as well.\u00a0 Add these to your existing gift cards.<\/li>\n<li>You may also need to make a pile for all items that need to be exchanged or returned to the store.\u00a0 Keep these items together so you can\u00a0easily get\u00a0them when you&#8217;re ready to run errands.<\/li>\n<li>If there are items that you don&#8217;t want to keep and cannot return, consider giving these to charity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Step #3:\u00a0 Move gifts to appropriate room<\/h3>\n<p>Now that you have sorted items into piles, move the items to the appropriate places.\u00a0 Enlist help from family members to get the job done.\u00a0 Before you know it, the gifts will be put away.<\/p>\n<p>You may want to vacuum the family room to pick up any glitter or crumbs left over from Christmas Day.<\/p>\n<h3>Step #4: Put Away Gifts in Each Room<\/h3>\n<p>Now that the gifts are in the correct rooms, you&#8217;ll need to spend time putting them away.\u00a0 Cut the tags off new clothes and put them in the hamper to wash before wearing.\u00a0 Do one room at a time, and you&#8217;ll make progress.<\/p>\n<h3>Plan to clean up a little everyday<\/h3>\n<p>It can be overwhelming, so do some cleaning up everyday.\u00a0 It&#8217;s better to make a little progress, than none at all.<\/p>\n<p>Happy cleaning! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">Here are a few more articles you\u00a0may enjoy:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/?p=1283\" target=\"_blank\"> Simple ways to organize gift wrap paper and bows<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/?p=450\" target=\"_blank\"> Organize Your Gift Cards<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/runningahousehold.com\/?p=420\" target=\"_blank\">How to Keep Track of Your Charitable Contributions<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On December 24th, everyone feels great about how pretty and clean the house looks.\u00a0 But what about after Christmas?\u00a0 If you hosted Christmas Day at your house, there&#8217;s a good chance there are toys and presents scattered around the room.\u00a0 Here are a few\u00a0steps and strategies\u00a0to get your house cleaned up in no time.
