The staircase was a main selling point for the house we purchased.\u00a0 One look at it, and we were sold.\u00a0 However, the bedrooms upstairs were small, and we had concerns about whether or not some of our existing furniture would fit.<\/p>\n

During the Open House, we couldn\u2019t help but notice that the current owner’s bed never completely made it upstairs.\u00a0 The box spring was still downstairs, propped up against the dining room wall.\u00a0 Strange, isn\u2019t it?\u00a0 It was at least a full size, if not a queen size box spring, which clearly could not fit up the narrow staircase.\u00a0 We knew we didn\u2019t want a similar problem.<\/p>\n

Remember the saying \u201cMeasure twice, cut once?\u201d\u00a0 Well, before placing an offer on the house, we measured the bedrooms and staircase several times.\u00a0 Then we measured our furniture, over and over, to make sure certain pieces would fit.\u00a0 We came to the conclusion that the furniture could fit in the rooms, but getting it up the staircase would be a challenge.<\/p>\n

The Solution<\/h3>\n

So, how do you\u00a0get a mattress and box spring up a small and narrow staircase?\u00a0 One piece at a time:<\/p>\n

Headboard<\/strong> – The headboard was easy.\u00a0 It fit up the narrow staircase.\u00a0 Once it was partially up, we flipped it up and over the railing, onto the second floor.\u00a0 No problem.<\/p>\n

Mattress<\/strong> – Although the master bedroom\u00a0was small, we knew a queen size mattress would fit.\u00a0 However, getting it up the staircase was another story.\u00a0 We were reassured that the delivery men could \u201cfold\u201d the mattress, if necessary, to get it upstairs.\u00a0With a little maneuvering, it went right up the stairs, and over the railing, just like the headboard.<\/p>\n

Box Spring<\/strong> – The box spring, on the other hand, could not be folded.\u00a0 So, we opted for a split box spring.\u00a0 This means that the box spring comes in two pieces.\u00a0 It worked like a charm.\u00a0 The guys moved it up the stairs, and up and over the railing at the top.\u00a0 Our queen size mattress sits right on top of the split box spring, and you would never know the difference.<\/p>\n

Ah, the joys of owning an older home.\u00a0 So glad everything fits! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n
