Did you notice that some of the companies that produce bleach have changed the formula?\u00a0 Look carefully at the labels.\u00a0 Some of the bottles now indicate that the bleach comes in a “new concentrated formula.”<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

What does this mean for you?<\/h3>\n

Read the package instructions carefully.\u00a0 In most cases, you will need to use less bleach.<\/p>\n

Before:<\/strong> In the past, we normally poured 1 cup of bleach into the dispenser of our washing machine.<\/p>\n

After:<\/strong> On certain brands, the instructions for the “new concentrated bleach”<\/strong> <\/em>indicate that we should only use \u00bd cup of bleach for our normal load.\u00a0 In addition, it is necessary to mix \u00bd cup of water with our \u00bd cup of bleach.<\/p>\n

In addition<\/strong>: Be sure to check the label to confirm the purpose.\u00a0 According to the manufacturer\u2019s label for one type of splashless concentrated bleach, it is \u201cnot for sanitation or disinfection.\u201d\u00a0 The main purpose of that product is to whiten laundry with a fresh scent.\u00a0 To disinfect, you\u2019ll want to look for regular bleach.<\/p>\n

Our thoughts: Mixed Emotions<\/h3>\n

Good:<\/strong> We are using less bleach for each use, so we don\u2019t need to shop for bleach quite as often.<\/p>\n

Bad:<\/strong> It is a hassle to mix water with the bleach.\u00a0 It\u2019s fine if you have a faucet nearby, but it is definitely an inconvenience for those who do not have a faucet close to the laundry room.\u00a0 Again, this varies by brand.\u00a0 Not all brands suggest adding water.<\/p>\n

Just be sure to read the label to see which bleach you are purchasing.\u00a0 You\u2019ll also want to read the instructions carefully prior to doing a load of laundry.<\/p>\n
