What’s Blooming in August

Did you ever wonder what blooms in August? We’ve put together a summary of some of the flowers and trees that bloom in Zone 5 in August:

  • Asters
  • Balloon Flowers
  • Black-eyed Susan
  • Butterfly Bush
  • Coreposis
  • Dalia
  • Phlox
  • Rose of Sharon
  • Roses: all types and colors (salmon, red, yellow, pink, white, peach)
  • Shasta daisies
  • Zinnias

In addition, annuals and garden plants are out in full force.  Vegetables that are ready for picking in August include: jalapeno peppers, peppers, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, tomatoes, corn, zucchini and beans.

Some varieties of apples are ready by the end of the month.

August is typically harvesting time for tobacco in Connecticut.  Plan to see lots of slow-moving tractors on the roads, and be patient. 🙂
